Okay, so what did they all ponder they were doing? Making a European-style arthouse movie for Hollywood, very likely. This has the kind of heartfelt ménage à trois that we're habituated to to from Bergman and Trauffaut (here the participants are Imprison, Reinhold and Anderson). Trouble is, this is only European-style in the discernment that unfailing kinds of oven chips claim to be Southern-style. The three stars contention gamely - and with funny seriousness - to judge to command something of Kornhauser's clumsy, self-embroiled with tete-…-tete, which strains after profundity in every syllable. You'll cheer with relief when Steve Buscemi wanders into a scene. But not for long.
