Lovely, lovely film!
I must be about the only person on the planet who always managed to miss this movie and hadn't caught so much as one minute of it everytime its been on.
Finally got round to watching it and was really pleased I did!
True, there are no great suprises or plot twists so dont expect them. But, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are as good as ever in the kind of roles both of them are obviously comfortable in and shine at. The screenplay is well wirtten and although you know whats going to happen, you cant help rooting for it anyway.
A really heartwarming little film, best watched snuggled up the sofa with the phone off the hook.
You've Got Mail
This is a decidely limp offering from screenwriter Ephron, whose winning formula of Hanks and Ryan scored so highly in Sleepless In Seattle.
Despite its fail-safe formulaic hooks, this is no patch on the original Lubitsch film Shop Around The Corner on which it is based.
Hanks is the big-business tycoon who opens his superstore bookshop right around the corner from Ryan's sweeter-than-sweet lil' children's bookshop which eventually closes down as a result.
As the two come to blows over business, so they are also conducting an anonymous email romance with each other that builds in intensity as their real-life feud escalates.
