Plot Summary:
|
Spruced up adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's epic untried about the enthusiasm of a Russian blood during the War of 1812. The reliable and personal events are seen mostly through the eyes of Natasha, who is 16 years old at the start of the flicks. Contains many panoramic shots of battle in action.

War and Peace
Time and obliteration by Bondarchuk's six-hour version, have taken further toll on this early example of Euro-pudding film-making. Made for economy in Europe, with a multinational cast, two directors, six writers (plus Tolstoy), two cameramen and a host of production interference, the emergence of this halfway decent movie is a minor miracle. Part of the trouble is in the major casting, with Fonda looking uncomfortable and only Lom as Napoleon and Hepburn as the near-perfect Natasha emerging with much credit. The battle scenes are often splendid, and visually it is breathtaking.
