Plot Summary:
|
Top banana Cameron Crowe (JERRY MAGUIRE, All but Illustrious) teams up with Tom Cruise once again in an adaptation of Alejandro Amenabar's 1997 Spanish film OPEN YOUR EYES. Cruise plays David Aames, a playboy publisher matchless a seemingly charmed life. His most modern buddy is his "friend" Julie Gianni (Cameron Diaz), who cares for David more than he realizes. When David meets the fetching Sofia Serrano (Penelope Cruz) at his birthday festival, he awakens to the capacity of what trusty love can feel , leaving Julie distraught. However, after an mischance that changes David's obsession, he is forced to rethink his choices. This intellectual thriller becomes barrel coaster drive a horse of flashbacks as David tries to make sense of all that has happened, relaying some surreal experiences to a psychiatrist (Kurt Russell) after being charged with extermination. The film's message may differ someone is concerned each viewer, but it does swipe one intrepid point: every action has consequences. ...
Crowe gets exceptional performances from Cruise, Cruz, and Diaz and the alluring pop soundtrack features songs from REM, Radiohead, Bob Dylan, and Peter Gabriel. Amazingly, the scene of Cruise running through a from beginning to end empty Times Square was shot on laying, a major feat in and of itself.

Wow, what an odd film. If you are planning on watching this film on the strength of the trailer (as we did) then beware... the trailer is very, VERY misleading.
I can't say that I enjoyed this film but I did watch it all the way to the end... I had to, I wanted to know what was going on.
Odd film. Odd. Odd. Odd.

Cruise stars as David Aames, a disgustingly rich, supremely smug, roundly arrogant ("I don't care if God calls - I'm very, very busy") 33-year-old head of a publishing company (which he inherited). He's got a swanky apartment and a compliant "fuck-buddy" in the form of Cameron Diaz's doting Julie Gianni. He's never...
