Plot Summary:
|
Terry Gilliam's agonizing scant-tech/high-tech future vision takes locale in 1997, after a pallid virus has killed 99% of the human citizenry--forcing the survivors to show a clean pair of heels unworthy of our planet's surface. This leaves the (other) animals topside, to standard the World once again. The scientists better James Cole, an imprisoned sociopath, to return to the history and pucker poop useful in the defense against this contagion. Once with little in once in a while, he is to winnow the mysterious 'Army of the Twelve Monkeys' and report his findings. Scientific, social, and nat... ional themes old hat travel (and its intrinsic paradoxes and nested loops), nutty disease, the wildness of truth, rights, and the Armageddon-embryonic of unchecked technological advances are artfully and cleverly explored.

Something a little bit different.
Now this might not be everyone's cuppa. However it is original and well directed. The soundtrack effectively compliments the action and I was well impressed with all involved. Be brave and enjoy.
Twelve Monkeys
Richly detailed, deliriously realised time-travel thriller from Terry Gilliam, starring Bruce Willis
Based on the 1962 short La Jet??e, Terry Gilliam's brilliant dystopian thriller is his finest film yet, with its inevitably stunning visuals, a nail-biting plot, and the casting against type of Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt.
Willis, here remind everybody of his ability to alternate no-brain blocksbusters with smaller, interesting projects, is time-travelling convinct James Cole, who is sent from his futuristic prison back to the 1990s to prevent mankind from being destroyed by a virus which may have something to do with mental patient Jeffrey Goines (Pitt, earning a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination).
Kicking off with a bizarre sci-fi thriller - onc...
Twelve Monkeys
"...A near-fractal libretto,...[an] achingly battered playing [not later than Willis]...and its own pell-mell thrust....Emotional urgency..." -- Rating: B+
Twelve Monkeys
"...Pitt is terrific....Solving the riddle of 12 MONKEYS is an reassuring dare..."
Twelve Monkeys
Inspired aside Chris Marker's acclaimed 1962 short film, La Jetée, this labyrinthine sci-fi thriller was penned via the co-writer of Frond Gofer, David Webb Peoples, and his missus, Janet. That it's very much the work of Monty Python alumnus Terry Gilliam, who imposes his own pseudo-poetic vision on to a universe that is hallucinogen to viral annihilation unless dated traveller Bruce Willis can bring to a halt the adversity. Although it was Brad Pitt who landed an Oscar nomination for his twitchy performance as the ruler of the Army of the Twelve Monkeys, it is Willis's anguished introvert who holds this gripping, hauntingly atmospheric film together.
