The year is 1962. USAF U-2 spy planes discover that the USSR is placing atomic ballistic missiles in Cuba. The Chiefs of Staff notify President Kennedy and his cabinet that the missiles have the potential to muffle up to 80 million Americans, and destroy a large of USAF bomber bases - thus crippling the Americans' ability to retaliate and leaving the countryside an easy target for Soviet assault. Fortunately, the missiles are not yet operational, and the President and his workforce essay to plate off how to get the missiles out of Cuba - whether by way of diplomatic means or by force. Initia... lly, prudent attempts fail as the Soviets status and stonewall the President. Secretary of Defence Robert McNamara comes up with a contrasting propose - a naval blockade of Cuba to hang on to chic missiles from reaching the sticks. When the Russians turn one's back on the blockade and try to run it, things quickly repudiate from bad to worse. No crisis here
Following the 13 days of the Cuban missile crisis, this is an exceptional gripping political thriller. Following the decisions and escalations that can easily lead a country so close to nuclear war.
Great viewing, I would recommend it
nail-biting
An excellent account of one of the most nail-biting events occurring during the presidential life span of John F. Kennedy. Superb insight into the polital tightrope walked daily by those in the most powerful office in the world. The world was probably closer to annihilation then than even when the meteor hit our 'dinosaur' earth, so many millions of years ago. Edge of the seat thrills, well acted, and brilliantly edited.
Thirteen Days
"...Strange, compelling viewing....This riveting thriller intent have you talking and thinking elongated after the lights would rather gone up..." -- 4 over of 5 stars
Thirteen Days
The last time again Roger Donaldson, Kevin Costner and US-Soviet relations were thrown into the mix the end effect was No Manner At fault (1986), an inspired reworking of 1947 thriller The Big Clock. If being sensible of the cracking squirm to that sketch was a trammel, aware that Thirteen Days' searing scenario doesn't end in Armageddon should clearly disable the histrionic arts. That it doesn't has more than one origin - an ace turn from Costner, whose essaying of advisor Kenny O'Donnell is rivalled no more than by his section-on Boston emphasize, advantage great make use of from Donaldson. The Australian cicerone's touch is so assured that grasp of the outcome not dissipates the sensation of impending termination. Indeed, the solely blemish on Thirteen Days...
