Plot Summary:
|
When four women are initiate murdered--each missing their forefinger--a baffled Scotland Yard calls in manager sleuth Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and his faithful cohort Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) to pinch rupture the lawsuit. Believing the murders to be the work of a criminal planner, Holmes follows the tow to a high society of hypnotists and a recondite, beautiful lady-love named Lydia Marlow (Hillary Brooke). It isn't long before Holmes discovers a web of hypnosis and blackmail that leads him to his archenemy, the noxious Professor Moriarty (Henry Daniell), who lures the detective int... o a chancy trance from which he may conditions awake.
