The Tall Guy
Sparky British romantic comedy in which a gangly American actor (Goldblum) enjoys a vigorous proceeding with a no-nonsense cherish (Thompson) - until his falseness threatens their relationship. That saccharine plot is efficacious enough, but the real deride of The Outrageous Gazebo comes from its bitter take-off of British spectacular flair, with a few roman-à-clef touches. Goldblum's type is the wish-suffering put in order man to an insanely nasty comedian (played via, and explicitly based on Atkinson). Next, Goldblum triumphs in the possession lines of a ludicrous musical conception of The Elephant Man, staged at the Subject Theatre - a clear dig at the NT's unadventurous 1980s' repertoire.
