The Spiderwick Chronicles
The Spiderwick Chronicles manages to avoid most of the pitfalls associated with the chimera genre - too long, too unproductive, too poorly plotted, too slavishly adapted or just too full of posho English kids - and is a brisk, entertaining film that features a good cast, headed past Freddie Highmore (Finding Neverland). Highmore plays American twins (his following American-accent role after August Dash), and true belongings momentous effects are utilised to both bring to vitality its menagerie of magical creatures and reproduce young master Highmore. All of it is impressively handled by director Characteristic Waters, stepping up from smaller register films like Mean Girls and Just Heaven and working from a screenplay co-written by veteran filmmaker John Sayl...
