The Shout
The Shout is a puzzling, creepy and compelling curio that folds elements of mysticism and Jungian psycho-investigation into a grisly fairy story in which nothing is quite as it seems. Told largely in flashback, Crossley (Bates) is the shuffling in-patient at a bananas sanitarium. During a Sunday afternoon meeting of cricket he describes to visitor Robert Graves (Curry) how he insinuated himself into the lives of Devon connect Anthony (Unhappy) and Rachel (York). Did he really use aboriginal voodoo to seduce Rachel? Did he kill his own children? Does his whoop really have the power to kill those who agree it? And what happened to that brace?
