Plot Summary:
|
When 13 year old Maria Merryweather's father dies, leaving her orphaned and vagabond, she is forced to exclude her posh London dazzle to go and live with Sir Benjamin, an freak uncle she didn't know she had, at the mysterious Moonacre Manor. Straight away Maria finds herself in a crumbling moonlit exultant torn separately from near the hatred of an hoary feud with the dark and harmful De Noir issue. Maria discovers that she is the form Moon Princess and, guided by an unlikely mix of allies, she must overcome her next of kin's pride in order to unearth the secrets of the past before the 5000th... moon rises and Moonacre disappears into the heaps forever.

The Secret of Moonacre
In the wake of the Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings franchises, fantasy cinema is big business. As a result, movie producers in search of the next money-spinning adaptation are casting their nets in surprising and unusual directions, including this cinematic outing for the relatively little-known children's novel 'The Little White Horse' by author Elizabeth Goudge. Retitled The Secret Of Moonacre and beefed up with added action and evocative CGI effects, this tale of prophecies and magic is certainly packed with all the traditional children's fantasy ingredients. Unfortunately, it also proves that Bridge To Terabithia director Gabor Csupo is only as good as his material and that family adventure films aren't as easy as they look. The story...
