Plot Summary:
|
In this updating of 1947's "The Bishop's Better half," a Baptist clergyman unknowingly pays too much attention to his congregation, and not enough to his dedicated trouble and son. Enter Dudley, a flirtatious, swanky-dressed angel, to help the connect a revitalized church and, not incidentally, reignite their confederation. The Preacher's Wife
This 1990s account of The Bishop's Better half has Denzel Washington as the angel sent to Earth to save the merger of pastor Courtney B Vance and his gospel-singing wife (Whitney Houston), as well as restoring Vance's wavering assurance. Unsurprisingly, with diva Houston in the company, there's lots of singing and close-ups of the singer, leaving Oscar-winner Washington and Vance on the sidelines to act as scenery over the extent of her euphonious moments. It tries to be limerick of those films you anticipate every event season, but falls well abridged of, say, It's a Wonderful Life.
