Plot Summary:
|
Thumbnail sketch of an American innocent. In 1955, Bettie Page (1923 - ) waits to avow in the vanguard a Senate subcommittee investigating the effects of pornographic concrete on American adolescents and juveniles. In flashbacks, we see her girlhood in Tennessee, a brief marriage, a gang seizure, and her going to Modern York City in 1949. There she takes acting lessons, models for photos, and acts in apart from films for adults, earning the handle, "The Fix-Up Queen of the Cosmos." We attend to her relationship with merchants Irving and Paula Klaw, photographers John Willie and Bunny Yeager, b... oyfriends, and the overt. The Notorious Bettie Page
Stories this don't come along very many times, so it seems a humiliate that American Psycho director Mary Harron's obvious passion for the sake of her issue doesn't translate into a better steam. Gifted with the jaw-droppingly wonderful Gretchen Mol as her Bettie and the stunning cinematography of Mott Hupfel, it's dictatorial to fathom where this talking picture falls down. But it somehow does. The opening of the film finds Bettie, respectably dressed and sitting in a courtroom lobby, waiting to aver in an indecency trial.
