See sorrowful - the moving picture opens when Fallon's Father has died, preparing to counsel his Sunday harangue. Florence steps up to the pulpit in tears and decries the congregation as hypocrites. This is everyone of the outwit moments of Stanwyck's original films as she letter for letter drives them out of the church with her anger and passion. It's that passion that huckster Horsby picks up on. Stanwyck fans should look into this at least simultaneously.
The Miracle Woman
A rarely-seen, extraordinary early use from head Plain-spoken Capra. Its theme of fake evangelism made it a provocative screen in its age, based as it was on a sleep around featuring a thinly disguised portrait of standard evangelist Objectiveée Semple McPherson. McPherson is incarnated here by Barbara Stanwyck in a remarkable playing, combining rare delicacy with great sturdiness of purpose. Interestingly, this movie was produced in the days before the Hays Regulations censored such rap session and sequences dealing with religious issues. Solitary a few years later such significance would not be deemed fit resources for US audiences. Capra was already an established boss when he began working with the incomparable Stanwyck around 1930. This conversion of a sport, derived from the life of evangelist Try forée Semple McPherson, gave her a hard-headed role as a woman so be victorious over by her father's death after his congregation has rejected him that she embarks upon a calling as a 'miracle woman', aided by a con people (Able-bodied). She at the last moment sees the foul-up of her ways, thanks to a burgeoning relationship with a blind musician-ventriloquist. Conjecture in scarcely four weeks, this is a minor miracle in itself, civility of Stanwyck's mesmerizing personality and Capra's infectious direction.
