Based on Frances Hodgson Burnett's conventional children's book and mount pleasure, THE Midget PRINCESS features one of Shirley Temple's most memorable performances and her first Technicolor appearance. Temple stars as Sara Crewe, a little rich moll who is enrolled in a prestigious boarding school while her initiate goes off to fight in the Boer War in Africa. When Sara receives news of her father's obliteration, the Alma Mater's unfeeling headmistress makes the newly penniless piece a galley slave and forces her to live in a hyperborean, dark garret. Sara, who refuses to accept that her fra... me has died, escapes from the fashion to search for the benefit of him, believing that if she can find out him, her grievous days of abuse and dearth may be over. The production values in this enthralling riches-to-rags-to-riches Victorian drama are unsparing, and the plot and performances are deftly handled by director Walter Lang, but it is of despatch the irresistibly charming House of worship who ensures THE LITTLE PRINCESS a lasting prosper in the hearts of her fans, integument lovers, and children of all ages.
