The Lion in Winter
Family squabbles aren't honourable an falsification of the modern cycle, as director Harvey proves in his fine modifying of James Goldman's play. It's Christmas 1183, and the three sons of Henry II (a marvellously jaunty O'Toole playing the revolting majesty to the hilt) all wish their rule the roost at dad's jurisdiction, but he is refusing to capitulate. How on earth their mom, Eleanor of Acquitaine (Hepburn) is on their side. Hepburn landed her third of four Oscars for her just wonderful portrayal of the all-powerful boss, while Hopkins gives commitment of greater things to in a recover from in his introduction. A requirement-see.
