The L-Shaped Room
'It takes all sorts, darling,' says the lesbian music-hall trouper (Courtneidge) to the maiden pregnant French girl (Caron, in her meatiest function). The Notting Hill bedsit they dwell in also hosts a 'strange' black, a tart with a heart of gold (pre-Coronation Street Phoenix) and a paragraphist (Bell), who, naturally, is successful to turn all of this into a novel. Seemingly daring in its age, despite the old-fashioned situation, it looks terribly dated now.
