Based on a chilling trustworthy story, "The Haunting in Connecticut" charts one family's paralysing, unaffected-life encounter with the incomprehensible forces of the occult. When the Campbell family moves to upstate Connecticut, they soon learn that their charming Victorian home has a worrying history: not only was the clan a transformed sepulture parlor where inconceivable acts occurred, but the possessor's clairvoyant son Jonah served as a demonic intermediary, providing a gateway for religious entities to crossover. Modern, unspeakable terror awaits, when Jonah, the crony who communicated ... with the substantial dark forces of the magical, returns to unleash a up to date amicable of horror on the innocent and unsuspecting genealogy.

The Haunting in Connecticut
Claudia PuigTales of haunted houses never get old. Or so the thinking goes in Hollywood. But The Haunting in Connecticut, although it's reasonably well-acted and offers a few certifiable jolts, feels awfully familiar. It might as well be Amityville. This house is more than a scary domicile. It's overtaken by supernatural spirits, according to a mysterious fellow named Reverend Popescu (Elias Koteas), who seems to know a thing or two about home exorcisms. "The house isn't so much haunted as it is possessed," he says. The Haunting in Connecticut is billed as a true story. WHY DON'T HOLLYWOOD KNOW HOW TO SCARE PEOPLE ANYMORE???
I mean, what is going on? All that money they spend on films, effects, actors, etc and they still can churn out absolute droll stories like this.
This movie had so much potentail and with the additional benefit of being 'based on a true story' this could have been the new Amityville Horror. But not only do they keep repeating the same old horror cliches all the way through the film (including, yet again, a shower scene) but they fail to produce anything that's actually terrifying and....well...new!!
The characters get quite annoying half way through this film and I found myself not even caring about their outcomes.
If you love horror, please stay away, as you could watch a classic which will...
The Haunting in Connecticut
Joe LeydonAt a time when so much has been reported about financially strapped folks facing foreclosure, there may be a receptive market for a pic that warns against moving too quickly into a house that only looks like a great bargain. But ticketbuyers will get far too few scares for their money with The Haunting in Connecticut, a based-on-fact ghost story that's long on atmosphere yet short on dramatic tension. Set for a March 27 theatrical rollout, this Lionsgate release likely will fade fast from megaplexes prior to its quick reincarnation as homevid product.
Working from a script by Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe, helmer Peter Cornwell sets up the story with brisk efficiency and a reasonable degree of logic.
Anxious mom Sara Campbell (Virginia Madsen), ...
