The Fly
With a touch more imagination and a small less saccharin, this fledgeling adaptation of Alan Parker's Birdy could have been one of the best bloodline films of the eighties, but journalist/director Nick Castle couldn't restrain the flights of fancy that hijack the demeanour. It's a heart-breaking tale around an autistic boy whose attempts to fly from the roof of his edifice charm the attention of a wench who has moved to the neighbourhood after her father's suicide. Jay Underwood and Lucy Deakins are splendid as the teenage friends, while Bonnie Bedelia and Colleen Dewhurst provide sympathetic adult support.
The Fly
A intentionally horrendous update of the 1958 terror flicks, with much unpleasant specify carried along by a certain call.
