The Farmer's Wife
Hitchcock adapted from a highlight by Philpotts, this is a crazy about rural comedy which tells the story of a grumpy widowed smallholder (Thomas) who decides to snitch a new chain but can't find a ball to live up to his unworkable standards. Despite the old show uncover-away (he spends the well film searching for the at once woman but finds her to be his housekeeper) the film's robust caricatures and placid mood keep things bowling along nicely.
