The Delicate Delinquent
Lewis's essential unaccompanied outing gave him the occasion to play it straight(ish) as the mixed-up teen who becomes confused with a odious street gang. A kindly the gendarmes officer (McGavin in a post originally intended owing whilom Lewis side-kick Martin) takes an engage in the little shaver and very eventually has him panting for a human being on the streets. As a policeman that is. A curt romantic let-up is thrown in, with Hyer as a do-gooder community wage-earner with whom Lewis (quickly) falls in love. Some bleeding diverting slapstick moments make this, while not Lewis's best film, mildly pleasant.
The Delicate Delinquent
Jerry Lewis's first film without Dean Martin: a sobering experience combining foolish comedy, susceptibility, pathos and social footnote. The hodgepodge fails to succeed.
