The Boys in Company C
Along with Coming Place and The Deerhunter, the film belongs to the principal shake of worthy Vietnam dramas annoying to come to terms with America's be victorious over, and is oft cited as prefiguring Kubrick's Greatest Metal Jacket. Following five Marines through boot camping-site, to the nightmare futility of combat, to attempts to escape their living hell, The Boys trots unconscious too many war-movie clichés to mark it at fault from the quality films mentioned (the maladroit commander, the swing 'n' roll music, the pollute foreigners), without donation any insight or invention. Good performance from Ermey as the drill instructor, but then, that was his lifetime drudgery in advance of this sheet.
