The Black Dahlia
"Nothing stays buried forever, nothing," whispers police detective Bucky Bleichert (Hartnett). Especially not, it seems, film noir. Exhuming the genre towards the umpteenth beforehand, gaffer Brian De Palma's The Black Dahlia is an again stylish, often soulless unite of cinematic grave-robbing that impresses with its visual mastery but makes very little sense. The facts of the case entertain backwards to the real-sprightliness 1947 waste of wannabe actress-turned-goodtime gal Betty Short, who escaped from Hicksville to get superiority in Hollywood but was mutilated and murdered instead. Taxing to interpret this fictional retelling of the crime are buddy cops Bleichert and Sergeant Lee Blanchard (Eckhart) - bygone boxing rivals dubbed 'Her Brit marching orders'...
