Remake of the 1968 romance of the same name, starring Keanu Reeves as a burned-out ad exec and Charlize Theron as the eccentric girl who invites a different man to move in with her each month
Quite why O'Connor chose to remake this film is uncertain: it's a rather old-fashioned tale with its roots firmly in 60s boho culture.
Sara (Theron) is a hippy chick who rescues both stray dogs and troubled men: inviting the latter to move in with her for a month so she can administer her particular therapy (which consists of eating ice cream and having lots of sex). Keanu does his tree impression again
This has the makings of a good, girly tear-jerker: odd-couple romance, terminal illness, gay best friend, kooky San Francisco lifestyles. Sadly the casting of cute-but-clueless Keanu means that any emotional thrust this film could have is completely lost. (Matt Damon would have been good in this role). Charlize Theron does her best but you try acting opposite a sideboard - not easy. An OK film to iron to but don't bother if you're looking for chick-flick bliss with weeping - rent Stepmom instead.
