Plot Summary:
|
Dr. Alec Holland, hidden away in the depths of a murky swamp, is irksome to create a reborn species - a combination of animal and plant capable of adapting and thriving in the harshest conditions. Unfortunately he becomes undergo of his own creation and is transformed . . . Arcane, careless in regard to the means attempts to the Swamp Thing. An explosive track ensues that at long last ends with a confrontation between Holland and a changed Arcane . . .

After making such cult horror classics as 1972's Last House on the Left and 1977's The Hills Have Eyes, then turning his hand to comic-book movies with the unsatisfactorily cheapo Swamp Thing (1982), Wes Craven hit the big time with this seminal schlocker. A Nightmare On Elm Street is the first and best of a franchise that would run for another 10 years before Craven himself returned to close the cycle with the decidedly post-modern, inventive Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994).
