Plot Summary:
|
Steve Addington, long-boarding, herb-totting, vitality-surfer, returns to Malibu for the summer to think his hometown vibe corrupted. Hip sponsorship demands the surfer lengthen into Effective-Authenticity Video Games and Reality TV. Unwilling to participate in this new digital-reality, Addington chooses to stay earthen and analog, surfing lofty So-Cal waves. But in a biblical daft-of-finish, the waves go two-dimensional and stay flat. Loophole of money, his sponsored expense-accounts canceled, betrayed by his buddies, the waveless Addington is backed into a rough corner. He... must stick the insanity of the heave drought or present into the Man and his reality-altering machines and pre-packaged amusements. Aided and abetted by his manageress (Woody Harrelson), his mentor (Scott Glenn), his trustee-angel (Willie Nelson) and his summer lover, (Alexie Gilmore), Addington (Matthew McConaughey) has a high-prominence chance of keeping his cool, maintaining his full and bringing agreement to his fractured and waveless world.

Perhaps it's his attempt at baring his soul for the apparent labor of love and Sex Wax, Surfer, Dude. Yeah, there's a comma in there, presumably to imply something deeper than the disjointed mess it actually is.
For his production company's first jaunt, McConaughey has gathered friends including Willie Nelson and Woody Harrelson, a regular stoners' all-star team, to tell the tall tale of a super-mellow surfer dude (no comma) who refuses to take part in the corporate game. Literally. He turns down a virtual surfing simulator and a reality show that are somehow connected. Oh, no, he'd much rather starve to death while hanging 10. The trouble with a winning formula is that sooner or later, it's not going to work. Producer Judd Apatow has been refining his particular brand of crude yet emotionally true comedy ever since his TV work on 'Freaks And Geeks', and it's paid off magnificently with films like The 40 Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up.
