Plot Summary:
|
No one has in all cases escaped from Stalag 17, a POW camp repayment for American airmen close by the Danube. Perchance that's because there's a spy in barracks four. The German guards seem to be aware everything that's happening before it happens. Most of the American POWs doubtful Sergeant J.J. Sefton, whose wheeling-and-dealing rates him festive privileges from the theatrical guards. When Lieutenant Dunbar arrives at the prison showy, and is accused of blowing up an ammunition train, the American prisoners must expose the stoolie he informs the Germans where Dunbar is hiding, AND push Dun... bar loose of the "unescapable" camp to come the SS arrives to take him into confinement.

Stalag 17
Co-adapted and directed nigh Wilder from a play, it retains the claustrophobic scenery of the Stalag 17 barracks within a German POW caravan site. Holden deserved his Best bib Actor Oscar his lines as Sefton, a cocky black marketeer concerned only with number only. When a burrow disintegrate-out leads to the end of two men, he is suspected, and a second betrayal seems to confirm this. A critique of the lynch-mob mentality emerges. The husky comedy at the expense of the Germans relieves the gibbet jolly.
