Spooks Run Wild
Having made the minor horror classics The Negro Cat with Basil Rathbone and The Wolf Confine with Lon Chaney Jr also in 1941, this seventh entrance in the East Side Kids series ought to deceive seemed something of a comedown in return Bela Lugosi. In spite of that, an even more surprising credit this harum-scarum old-dark-house adventure is that of co-scriptwriter Carl Foreman, who later received five Oscar nominations for pictures such as High Noon. Lugosi is mildly unpropitious, the Kids wisecrack popcorn machines, and there's a nice cycle from the of many a Pete Smith terse, Dave O'Brien.
