Spider-Man
Spider-Man may look like an action comic come to life, but its best feature is its romance comic heart. It's that rare cartoon movie in which the villain is less involving than the love story.
Like any celebrity biography, Spider-Man is more interesting when its subject is struggling than after he succeeds--and of Spider-Man's renown there can be no doubt. Uncommonly popular since his comic-book creation by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko some 40 years ago, Spidey was conceived as a new kind of hero, very much a teenager with age-specific uncertainties and anxieties that having unusual powers did nothing to ease. But let Peter Parker, Spider-Man's alter ego, tell you himself in the voice-over that starts the film:

Passable no thinking required
Very average story but found it easy enough to watch. Nothing taxing here but a nice romance going on for us softies to enjoy. Only watched it because I heard Spiderman 2 was very good and wanted to get up to speed. Presume Spiderman 2 is much better.
Spider-Man
Critic-brace, comic-paperback entertainment that will gob large audiences with its pirouette of romance and action, though it could have done with a more safely a improved (that is, badder) villain.
Spider-Man
"...Raimi does know his genre and has a allotment of fun with the always gratifying makeover component....[Maguire] seems the prime to ingratiate oneself with Peter, imbuing the label with wit, sensitivity, affability, asset, humor and edginess..."
Spider-Man
Thanks in part to lawful battles, Marvel Comics' much-loved superhero has taken his era to reach the enormous screen. This fantasy action hazard was initially intended as a James Cameron vehicle, but the beetle out finally went to Darkman administrator — and self-confessed Spider-Gazabo fan — Sam Raimi. His vision sticks bring to a close to the courage's witty-book roots with the creation of a colourful, visually inspired frolic that's bubbling with forcefulness and gleefully in fun-in-cheek, yet edged with pathos. Bring actor Tobey Maguire is unique but inspired casting, exuding brat-next-door magnetism as the clandestine teen avenger (Kirsten Dunst is credible, too, as love interest Mary Jane Watson). Indeed, it's Maguire's intense likeability that helps ...
Spider-Man
"...The filmmakers have succeeded in rejuvenating the character while staying exact to his roots....Mr. Maguire seems at at a stroke expressive and unprotected..."
