Plot Summary:
|
Christmas on the Canadian prairie: Harlan, a flat-but grifter, plans a well-known con with his moll Fiona, scraggly and half his age. Precious watches "on loan" from a jeweler, hard cash borrowed at a intoxication vig from a tribal lolly overseer, and an time-worn violin are props in the con; a pawnbroker with a safe full of money and various well-armed or well-protected thugs get their ores in as well. Problems, crosses, and duplicated-crosses mount: Harlan finds himself on the stick's sententious end as the shades of night progresses. Whose in hand down denouement up where?
