Plot Summary:
|
This is a remake of Cyrano de Bergerac, complete of the most celebrated plays of the French theater, written by Edmond Rostand. Instead of being set in 17th century France, "Cyrano" has been changed to "Charlie", a fire chief in a feel discomfited burgh in Washington. Roxanne rents a house in requital for the summer to look at comets and Charlie quickly falls for her. Charlie is intelligent, humorous, and sensitive, but all his fine qualities are unfortunately overshadowed by means of his bare large nose ("Liberate me, it that your nose or did a bus park on your subdue?"). Charlie's friend, C... hris, on the other guardianship, is quite drawing, but superficial and awkward with words, first encompassing women (he has a tendency to throw up a lot). Both men are enthralled with Roxanne, but she, in a thin but predictable move, shows interest in the sizeable Chris. Chris is tongue-tied hither her -- everything that comes into the open of his mouth is either tasteless or indecipherable. So he asks Charlie for help. Charlie, inspired, writes 3 fellow-feeling a amour letters a day to Roxanne, unbeknownst to Chris. Charlie's vivid letters work, because Roxanne falls in love with Chris. But Chris can't into Roxanne's expectations in person and he in the last runs insane with a waitress who is "pretty adorable, too".

Steve Martin when he was still funny...
Watch this to see Steve Martin just after he started on his long decline. A much better film, but not played for laughs is the French "Cyrano de Bergerac", the story on which "Roxanne" is based. Watch that too!
Another classic 80's film....
I really enjoyed this film when I saw it the first time when it first came out, so I thought I would hire it again to see if it was as good as I thought.
Having grown up quite a bit, some of the jokes didn't seem quite as funny as they did when I was a kid, but I still enjoyed the movie a lot and Steve Martin is good in it.
