Pete McKell, a cynical American take writer, joins a disparate place of holiday-makers on a river cruise with the aid the waters of Kakadu Nationwide Greens. Initially Pete clashes with their spell captain, Kate, a feisty inexperienced woman who assumes he is just another 'diocese-slicker' in search of a quick tremor. After an uneventful daytime cruising the river, Kate is reluctantly persuaded to manage their boat into unexplored territory. They discover... a secluded lake but fear strikes when their craft receives a powerful blow from beneath the murky depths and begins to sink. With smidgin exquisite, she beaches the boat on the closest out land -a elfin sludge island. With a rising tide and only half an hour of light socialistic, fear grips the place as they realize they are trapped in the hide-out of a 'rogue' crocodile, governed at best away its dearth to hunt and finish. Begrudgingly, Pete and Kate enlist in forces to keep hysteria at bay and in the process start to see beyond their sign impressions. More restrained than his no-holds-barred psychothriller hit Wolf Creek, helmer Greg McLean's sophomore outing wants only to be a good B-grader and succeeds with regular scares and a monster worth the ticket price. Bankrolled by the Weinstein Co. via its Dimension shingle, pic's on-again, off-again U.S. release has been put on hold pending a Down Under road test. Creature feature splashed wide into Australian waters Nov. 8, with meaty biz appearing likely.
