Plot Summary:
|
The Rocker tells the alibi of a failed drummer who is given a second chance at fame. Robert "Fish" Fishman is the darned dedicated and astoundingly fanatical drummer for the eighties hair federate Vesuvius, who is living the rock n' roll pipedream until he is unceremoniously kicked out of the band. Twenty years after his rock lead fantasies are destroyed, just when Fish has finally given up all expectancy, he hears that his nephew's high mould rock band A.D.D. is looking for a new drummer. They reluctantly make him the newest fellow of the band, giving him a chance to rescue the stagger Immort... al throne he's usually thought he deserved, and charming the children federate along championing the ride of their lives.Read more Less

That's why audiences would be better served staying home and playing Rock Band than wasting their time on something as leaden and unfunny as The Rocker (* 1/2 out of four). If a viable rock 'n' roll comedy is what you're looking for, find a copy of This Is Spinal Tap or School of Rock. If you're a Rainn Wilson fan, catch a rerun of TheOffice. Just don't waste your time seeing something as derivative, predictable and humor-free as The Rocker. It's hard not to have some hope for this movie given its strong cast. This is the question put, near the end of The Rocker, by the aging lead singer of multi-platinum heavy-metallers Vesuvius to the (mostly) young members of their support band ADD. This is indeed ADD's big moment but really this film is more concerned with launching director Peter Cattaneo and leading man Rainn Wilson into the Hollywood stratosphere. Still, the pair probably have a few albums to go before they make it.
