Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Brooks's patchy parody takes a wild swing at the Costner costume adventure and falls falt on its face. Swashbucklers don't lend themselves to parody as they have their tongues firmly in their checks in the first place. A glut of throwaway gags are no compensation for a few genuinely decent cracks, and the star names (Ullman, Hayes and Stewart) are poorly used.
The few promising routines never really get rolling and the cast of incongruous characters (an effete Robin, DeLuise as The Godfather and Brooks's own Rabbi Tuckman) are not developed, so the overall impression is of sitting through a tiresome undergraduate review. Disappointing.
