Plot Summary:
|
Pills and heroin forth fulfillment of the dreams of four residents of Brooklyn's Brighton Shore in the shadow of a crumbling Coney Island sport commons. Sara dreams of appearing on telly wearing a red tucker that's a jot cosy. So she starts a regime assisted by uppers. Her son Harry, his girlfriend Marion, and his to the fullest extent friend Tyrone pin their hopes concerning money on moving up from pushing nickel bags of heroin to buying in majority. They also deal to truss their growing habits. Things are flourishing excellently: Harry buys his mom a new TV, she's losing consequence, she ha... s status volume her friends, Tyrone's girlfriend is cold-hearted, and the get has specie in a shoe package trap. These dreams are addictive.

Pyschological Warning!
This is my favourite film of all time. A truly excellent film should touch you, make a difference to your day, and have a long lasting effect on you. The incredible impact of Requiem does not lessen with each viewing, each and every time it is an emotional rollercoaster, with SO many 'heart in your mouth' moments! You'll smile with contentment, jump with fear, cry in dismay, and go pure crazy with shock! I've never shown this film to anyone who did not sit there in disbelief and amazement after it's intensely traumatic ending.
When I first viewed it, the guy behind the counter said, 'Are You Sure? This film will mess you up, I guarantee it!', and I protested, saying 'No film is THAT messed up!'

Like Last Exit To Brooklyn, Requiem is a New York tale based on a novel by that purveyor of cheery fare, Hubert Selby Jr.
Sara (Burstyn), a self-consciously overweight widow, is addicted to TV, chocolate and 'diet pills'. Her son Harry (Leto) and his girlfriend, Marion (Connelly) and best friend/partner in petty crime Ty (Wayans), meanwhile have harder tastes. The habits gradually push aside any other aspect of the characters' everyday lives. Corruption sets in and their degredation bottoms out. It isn't pretty: minds, limbs, freedom and self-respect are all lost.
