Plot Summary:
|
The year is 1936. Archeology professor Indiana Jones narrowly escapes extirpation in a South American place with a gold idol - by poison dart, fall, and finally a leviathan boulder that chases him out the front. An old enemy, Rene Belloq, steals the idol and then orders Hovito indians after Indy. Indy, notwithstanding, escapes sponsor to the USA, where Army Brightness officers are waiting for him at his university. They swear him apropos a flurry of Nazi archaeological activity close to Cairo, which Indy determines to be the realizable resting place of the Ark of the Covenant - the chest that... carried the 10 Commandments. The Ark is believed to carry an incredibly powerful determination that have to not fall into Nazi hands. Indiana is immediately sent abroad, stopping in Nepal to pick up an old girlfriend (his old professor's daughter) and then meeting up in Cairo with his benefactor Sallah. But danger lurks everywhere in the form of Nazi thugs, and poisonous snakes in the Ark's resting place. After Belloq, hired nearby the Nazis, makes off again with the Ark, Indy & Marion are determined to get it back, and they overpower the pilot of a German level surface. But Indy finds himself confronted with a giant German thug, and after a frightening hand-to-hand fight Indy & Marion expel up the plane. Now the Nazis must drive the Ark to Cairo, but Indy regains control of the Ark after running the convoy off the course, one carrier at a time. Post-haste again the Nazis recapture the Ark...and Marion, heading because a Nazi-controlled island. There, Belloq discretion commence the Ark...to evidence the horrific power it can unleash upon the far-out!

Raiders of the Lost Ark
Essential Spielberg action adventure that casts post-Star Wars Harrison Ford as the heroic archaeologist out to thwart the devious plans of a group of Nazis. Splendid.
Building on Steven Speilberg's reputation as all-round family entertainer, and Harrison Ford's post-Star Warsaction-hero credibility, Raiders Of The Lost Ark retreads the Saturday matinee cliff-hanger serials of the 1930s and 1940s for more cynical times, making for a hugely enjoyable romp. Unsuprisingly, that other titan of popcorn cinema, George Lucas, was also in the mix - he developed the script and executive produced.
The director does little to update his source material. The plot is pretty standard get-the-girl-and-kill-the-baddies stuff: the race between rugged archaeologist Ind...
