Plot Summary:
|
"Some people lose their faith because The Blessed shows them too scant," says Thomas Daggett. "But how varied people lose their faith because Heaven showed them too much?" Daggett nearly became a priest; now he's a cop. He may want to put belief behind him, but one morning a weird, eyeless, hermaphroditic corpse turns up. Suddenly he is on a path that desire put him just in the middle of a warfare in Heaven on earth. And once again, Heaven will show him too much: gore, blood, charred kin, living corpses and much worse. Fair and square more central to the beatified do battle effort is a issue ... girl. This American Indian teenager has something Gabriel wants. And Gabriel is amenable to kill her and anyone in his path - or even reanimate a stiff or two - to get it.

Entertaining
I have a feeling that this version of the movie was the edited one as scenes I was expecting between Gabriel and Lucifer didn't materialise. Nevertheless, if you like films like Stigmata, which combine strong religious themes with great special effects and cool black leather, then this will appeal. The performances are great, especially from Viggo as Lucifer. A bit of a cult appeal. Great evening's entertainment.
Thinking mans films
Not your usuall Horror/thriller. An excellent film that makes you think very differently about Angels! Well worth hiring this film.
Prophecy, The
Priest-turned-cop Elias Koteas gets caught up in an terrene battle between renegade angels Christopher Walken and Eric Stoltz in this strangely ambiguous and somewhat pretentious animus creativity from writer/cicerone Gregory Supplement, who also co-scripted Highlander. The wildly imaginative premise and georgic development, along with a solid cast that includes Virginia Madsen and Amanda Plummer, make this often compelling, every now corny, chiller a unconventional cult item. It's highly enthusiastic on the cerebral leading but, except for one scene in Gehenna, lacking the of a mediocre of special effects you would suppose from such an apocalyptic caprice. However, undeterred by its flaws, it was thriving enough to spawn two sequels.
