A group of mostly outrageous infantrymen repayment from the Spanish-American with a cache of gold. They tours to the West where their leader searches as a replacement for the men who lynched his father.
The movie starts off during the American-Spanish War in Cuba which was at the turn of the 19th century. I assume that there really was an African American regiment there, because it was 35 years after the Civil War in which there was already a black regiment, as we saw in "Glory". Several of the actors here also appeared the latter. The exiatence of a large number of black westerners, whose stories make a refreshing change, is also an historical fact. Another film that deals with a similar but even more tragic historical incident in which a black township is attacked by racist whites is the excellent "Rosewood". (8/10)
