Perfect World, A
Somewhat underrated critically and neglected by the public (just $30 million take in the USA), this movie is, admittedly, overlong at 138 minutes but remains one of Eastwood's most generous-hearted and mellow works. He's generous too in that he plays a subsidiary role as the Texas Ranger on the trail of an escaped convict (Costner), to whom he doesn't speak for the first two hours. Familiar territory: the child and the fugitive who bond on a journey. Costner does his best to flesh out the part of a likeable guy who's had a rough ride in life and relates to the hostage Phillip (Lowther) who is drawn to the father figure Haynes.
Taut but predictable
A good thriller, perhaps 20 minutes too long, but the outcome is pretty telescoped early on. Kevin Costner gives an understated but quietly menacing performance as the killer on the run with his captured hostage, played delightfully by TJ Lowther. Well directed by Clint, whose performance is subdued but effective.
Perfect World, A
Slightly underrated critically and neglected by way of the public (fitting $30 million take in the USA), this silent picture is, admittedly, overlong at 138 minutes but remains everyone of Eastwood's most generous-hearted and mellow works. He's generous too in that he plays a subsidiary role as the Texas Ranger on the trail of an escaped convict (Costner), to whom he doesn't use because the first two hours. Familiar quarter: the lad and the short-lived who fetters on a gallivant. Costner does his most beneficent to flesh revealed the part of a congenial send up who's had a rough lie in life and relates to the hostage Phillip (Lowther) who is pinched to the beget figure Haynes.
Perfect World, A
While this lacks the form and assured mingle of brand traditions and upheaval that marks Eastwood's best work, it is...
