As Johnny (Macchio) huddles against his comrade Ponyboy (Howell), he speaks of a world without nuisance - somewhere to the elusive rainbow. They are 'greasers' at odds with the 'socs'. He has merely a brutal home to moulder to, Ponyboy has loving brothers. When they run away after a confrontation and hide in a church, Dallas (Dillon) helps them - but to be gunned down, bringing the gang flow to some conclusion.
