One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Jack Nicholson excels in this multi-Oscar winning, anti-authoritarian tale, the last of the great counter-culture Hollywood movies
In the lengthy gestation period during which Ken Kesey's modern classic was transposed from book to the big screen, Kirk Douglas was forced to abandon his dreams of producing and starring, handing over the former duties to son Michael, the latter to Nicholson.
The resulting film was an artistic, commercial and critical triumph which swept the board at the Academy Awards - it was just the second movie (after It Happened One Night) to win the big five: Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Adapted Screenplay.
Nicholson, in the middle of a hot run, gives one of the great performances of the decade as McMurphy, a soci...

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Adapted from Ken Kesey's original, this film is one the outstanding example movies of the seventies, thanks in no small measure to the talents of boss Milos Forman, who propelled the side-splitting antics to a horrifyingly poignant finale and resounding touchy and commercial sensation; it became one of the handful to be awarded all the critical Oscars, endearing inasmuch as best picture, director, screenplay, actor (Jack Nicholson) and actress (Louise Fletcher). Nicholson's legendary doing as McMurphy, a free spirit at rough in a confirm mental home, is a given of his greatest characterisations, as he stirs up uprising against the oppressive regime of Fletcher's ward sister, in which drugs give rise to patients' decisions. And extent those patients are such then almost...
