Of Mice and Men
Depression story of a gentle giant's downfall. A classic novel, a mediocre film starring John Malkovich and Gary Sinise, who also directs and co-produces
Adapting an acknowledged literary masterpiece is always tough. Deviate too far from the source material and you call down the wrath of purists upon your head; stay too faithful and the film fails to develop its own life. This early 90s adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic demonstrates why such adaptations are often regarded with suspicion: it tries so hard to do justice to the novel that it utterly fails as a film.
In the Depression, two drifters, Lennie (Malkovich) and George (Sinise), travel around looking for work. Lennie is a good-hearted but slow, stopped from getting in too much trouble by George. ...
Brilliant film from a classic novel
This film has been (successfully) made from the same titled book by John Steinbeck. I originally read this book at school and enjoyed the story line as all the characters are well defined and all have unique elements to them.
The book is about two people travelling through recession torn America going from ranch to ranch getting farm work, only moving on when Lenny - a simple but very caring character - unintentionally causes problems.
This film will make you very sad in parts (bottom lip quivering) as you understand the characters and relate to their feelings so well.
The four stars is a high four star rating. Hire it and love it.

Of Mice and Men
Despite the sensible intentions of those involved, a strangely unemotional and inert remake.
