Now and Then
Demi Moore co-produced this female reading of Uphold by Me, which follows four puerile girls (Gaby Hoffmann, Christina Ricci, Thora Birch, Ashleigh Aston Moore) in 1970 as they assault to solve the puzzle of the cessation of a close by old crumpet. It's a slow, small-town story, bookended near the right now-period revelations of the girls, sometimes grown up into Moore, Melanie Griffith, Rita Wilson (Mrs Tom Hanks) and Rosie O'Donnell. Lesli Linka Glatter (a whilom TV director on series such as er, Matching Peaks and NYPD Blue) delivers a euphonious, unassuming film that should dawn on a chord with anyone who believes that life was better in the seventies. Fans of Brendan Fraser should keep an watch out for his brief, uncredited performance as a Vietnam mature.
