Plot Summary:
|
After different skirmishes, two wounded soldiers, song Bosnian and sole Serb, confront each other in a trench in the no man's land between their lines. They wait for foul, trading insults and ordered finding some stale ground; sometimes only has the gun, sometimes the other, sometimes both. Things outfit tangled when another wounded Bosnian comes to, but can't move because a bouncing mine is beneath him. The two men cooperate to wave whey-faced flags, their lines call the UN (whose high lead tries not to plagiarize), an English presswoman shows up, a French sergeant shows courage, and the thr... ee men in no chain's land may or may not find a way to all get along.

No Man's Land
A very good film, which I found it hard to categorise. At first, I thought the film would develop along familiar lines i.e. enemies forced together eventually discover a mutual respect and understanding, and finally reject their violent past etc... However, it doesn't work out like that - that would be too neat and tidy. I don't want to spoil the ending, but no one comes out of this film well, with maybe one or two exceptions. Ultimately, the film is a devastating & honest examination of the Serbia-Bosnia war - there's no happy ending or any redeeming acts at the end to restore your faith in humanity - which just makes the film even more powerful. Oh, and the film also works really well simply as a drama - its never dull or boring, and is well paced - there's no und...
