Plot Summary:
|
Leland Deserted comes to Sheriff Alan Pangborn's pleasant illiberal New England town, and opens a bank. What this kindly Satan sells is whatever you need, from a surcease from pain to an object which you procure always coveted. The Faustian price is, of course, corruption, and soon the poor sheriff's town is wracked by jealousy, irritate, and distort.

Not one for dog lovers
Great movie, and i'd definately watch it many times over. But around half way through there is a scene involving a dog.. and a large knife.. Although the scene doesn't last long, it could be distressing for dog lovers like myself.
Besides that, the rest of the movie is GREAT!
A real cracker
I have this on VHS and I love it. Max Von Sydow is brilliant in such a subtle evil way as he manipulates the underlying feelings of the inhabitants of this small town until they explode with their pent up feelings. A Stephen King story in the best tradition.
King the Story Teller
Having read the post, I was looking ahead to the good story which I knew was coming. People often cashier Stephen Majesty as a horror writer when he is predominantly a master anecdote teller. They repeatedly forget (or don't even know) that Shawshank, Feeling Nearby Me and Green Mile were all the products of his vision, some say twisted, I say dazzling and riveting. Needful Things could conditions rival up to those films, but is to merit a watch.
It is detailed of remedy and not in the least slow or wearisome so in that could be said to be gripping. Ed Harris is a strong lead and always gives a shroud prescence. I cogitate on that they missed out some of the paramount parts of the story, but still shows how arbitary trivial misdemeanors can motive cause importance but mindless ...
