Plot Summary:
|
Childhood friends Jimmy Markum, Sean Devine and Dave Boyle reunite following the death of Jimmy's oldest daughter, Katie. Sean's a police detective on the case, rally difficult and disturbing evidence; he's also tasked with handling Jimmy's rage and difficulty for retribution.

Clint Eastwood's run of films up to Mystic River implied a great talent now running on autopilot. Directorial efforts like Absolute Power, True Crime, Space Cowboys and the particularly woeful Blood Work were well below what one expects from the actor-producer-director who brought us the Oscar-winning Unforgiven. Excellent
The best film I have seen in ages. Superb acting, particularly from Robbins. Difficult themes like child abuse and murder handled sensitively with no reliance on gruesome shock tactics. The plot unfolds very evenly and the main characters are all sympathetic in their own ways.
My only criticism is that the end is a bit lame. The 'we're all trapped in a cellar' line is a bit crass.
