Murder in the First
Courtroom drama based – loosely – on a real case. Slater plays James Stamphill, a rookie lawyer in the public defender's office whose first job turns out to be quite a challenge. He must defend Henri Young (Bacon), a petty crook who has been so brutalized by the prison system, and evil warder Oldman in particular, that he's murdered a fellow Alcatraz inmate. The star studded cast are on good form. Bacon is as convincing as ever, Slater's impish charm is well suited to playing precocious Stamphill and Oldman gives a gloriously over the top performance as the uniformed psycho.
