Mr. Deeds Goes to Town
A celebrated and critical success in its daytime, this slight conduct tale won an Oscar in the service of director Frank Capra, but today's more cynical audience potency find it too full of Capra-corn. Lanky Gary Cooper is wonderful as Longfellow Deeds, the tuba-playing "Cinderella Man" who inherits a measly fortune. But the character of the investigative reporter played sooner than Jean Arthur rings false, as do the myriad picayune roles, although multifarious are entirely cast, especially Walter Catlett as a drunken poetess. While it lacks a well convincing descent, it's still very funny and struck a blow for notice of the run-of-the-mill Joe as flick picture show ideal.
Mr. Deeds Goes to Town
What at the same time was still in nappies and charming at times seems degree laboured in spots, and the production is parsimonious not to say, but the courtroom participate still works, and the advantage intentions seize all.
