Plot Summary:
|
Bret Maverick is a superb masterly poker gambler, as skilled with the handgun as he handles the cards, but also a master at avoiding violence next to deception. Like all colossal poker layers, he's on his way to a winner peel off all championship on Commodore Duvall's riverboat, but first must complete the steep entry sum, collecting debts and gambling. He has most confusing encounters with other gamblers, mainly fake 'Southern belle' Annabelle Bransford and Marshal Zane Cooper, tricksters in his alliance, and various other stooges and accomplices, such as the bandit Angel and his gang, the I... ndian Joseph who preys on tourists and one of them, a Russian Archduke. Things are rarely what they seem, as layers of wanton trickery are unfolded.

this is a very funny film, with twists and turns throughout.
there are outstanding performances from jodie foster, mel gibson and james garner.
even at the end there is a twist.
well worth watching.
my family loved every minute, and watched it at least half a dozen times before we sent it back.
