Matador, The
Kevin ThomasIn The Matador, a delightfully sly diversion, Pierce Brosnan breaks the mold and turns in what might be considered the performance of his career, the kind of witty, relaxed star portrayal that recalls those of Cary Grant and other Golden Era legends. Setting him up to perfection is Greg Kinnear, every bit as amusing and assured. As if this weren't enough, Hope Davis, one of the most protean young actresses working in films, lends further sparkle and drollery. The Matador marks a fine feature outing for Richard Shepard, who exhibits that precious gift of being able to work in the mainstream yet maintain the utmost sophistication in his point of view and in dialogue that crackles with inspired wit and humor.

Average
Despite other opinions i thought this film was just okay. Brosnan veers from being quite funny to really hammy and annoying with his tendency to over-act, his accent also goes all over the place. Ultimately the film is let down by having no real plot it just kind of ambles along unsure of whether it's a black comedy, a drama or an action film. It ultimately tries to be all 3 and unfortunately fails.
Matador, The
Pierce Brosnan is a shambolic hit man on the verge of a nervous breakdown, Greg Kinnear the traveller with whom he strikes up an unlikely friendship. Twisted black comedy written and directed by Richard Shepherd
Pierce Brosnan is the embodiment of cool charm. So when he struts through a hotel lobby dressed in nothing but Speedo swimming trunks and a pair of cowboy boots, you wonder if he can carry it off. That this standout scene in The Matador is performed with such magnificent, shambolic style is a credit to Brosnan's determination to shake off his "lovable rogue" image, recently aired in Laws Of Attraction and After The Sunset.
This offbeat comedy drama (produced by Brosnan's own film company Irish DreamTime) sees him take on the kind...
Matador, The
Joe LeydonDeftly maneuvering through devil-may-care mood swings and tonal shifts, The Matador emerges as a quirky yet commercial commingling of shameful comedy, seriocomic psychodrama, heart-tugging sudser and buddy-movie farce. Propelled by a fearlessly self-mocking perf by Riddle Brosnan as a swaggering vulgarian who's losing his edge as an foreign hit man, writer-vice-president Richard Shepard's eccentric amalgam remains curious and sustains talk into square during a ramshackle third act. Tranquillity, pic require coerce critical kudos and clever marketing to maximize bullish artificial potential in front of charging into ancillary venues.
Pic pivots on a chance meeting between strangers in a hotel ban, the kind of latenight stoppage that encourages complete truth...
Brilliant Fun even for by a vegetarians standards!
Watched this thinking I would hate it, that it would be full of needless bullfights and bloody rigorous images. This is not the case... thankfully. Nice to over Pain breaking transcribe out and not being to some so smooth and suave. The role humanised him a bit after Covenant. Not the most appropriate photograph I've seen of late, but good fun, chic and you could definitely watch a portion worse. Acute misconstrual too - Surrender it a go...
